WHEN THUNDER ROARS, GO INDOORS!
Lightning Safety Week is the week of June 23rd through the 29th for 2013.
With summertime being the peak season of Lightning strikes NOW is the time to refresh your memory with important safety tips of what to do when you are outside and lightning strikes.
As soon as you hear thunder it is time to take cover.
Do not be in or near trees.
Get to a vehicle or enclosed building as soon as possible.
A covered picnic pavilion is not enough protection from lightning, it must be an enclosed shelter.
When indoors stay away from water, electricity, and windows. Even a cordless landline phone can be a lightning conductor.
The following website of the National Weather Service offers numerous FREE tutorials, toolkits, posters and more for Coaches, Lifeguards, Teachers and more.
