The National Weather Service has a wonderful slogan for helping keep you safe during Lightning strikes. This catchy phrase, being easy to remember, will be sure to save a life.

lightning strikesLightning Safety Week is the week of June 23rd through the 29th for 2013.

With summertime being the peak season of Lightning strikes NOW is the time to refresh your memory with important safety tips of what to do when you are outside and lightning strikes.

  • As soon as you hear thunder it is time to take cover.

  • Do not be in or near trees.

  • Get to a vehicle or enclosed building as soon as possible.

  • A covered picnic pavilion is not enough protection from lightning, it must be an enclosed shelter.

  • When indoors stay away from water, electricity, and windows. Even a cordless landline phone can be a lightning conductor.

The following website of the National Weather Service offers numerous FREE tutorials, toolkits, posters and more for Coaches, Lifeguards, Teachers and more.

Education is the best medicine for safety. Lightning Safety Week is a great time to remember to educate yourself and those you love or are responsible for.

Good Morning Bobbie,  Lightening is causing so many fires in our state.  We need the rain that comes with it to put some of these fires out in the mountains.  Have a great day.

Bobbie: This is potentially life saving advice.  Mother nature is not something to be messing with.

Will, I hear that. The fires out west are just awful this year. Praying for rain your way! Have A Good Day!

Hi Anita, Boy, you got that right. I remember those commercials where she always said "it's not nice to fool mother nature."  Oops, I'm giving away my age here.

Bobbie, a great reminder for all of us to respect the power of these storms.  (And we have a lot of them in Florida)

Gabe, Sorry to hear that you do. You could probably teach us a few tips. We only get them bad in the summertime and some years are less than others. Thanks for stopping by
