DO IT YOURSELF (DIY) HELPFUL SITES AND BLOGS FOR HOMEOWNERS!

If you are a Do It Yourselfer, like me, here are some helpful sites and blogs I have found around the Web.

DIY sites and blogsLately I have had this dying urge to repaint my bedroom. HA! Not as easy as I expected it to be. I have been a Do It Yourself painter for years but this task of trying to repaint the trim with White Semi-Gloss paint has been driving me crazy so naturally, where did I turn? Yep, you guessed it. The Web.

Needless to say I found so much useful information, site after site, that I thought I would share a few with you. Remember, if you are getting frustrated, you are not alone.  Search for it and find those shortcuts and helpful hints that will help you get it done.

MY FAVORITE DIY SITE: THE FAMILY HANDYMAN. Not only do they offer a ton of information but their pictures are great.  The info of theirs that is constantly being shared on Pinterest.com and Facebook.com has made them worldy famous, I am sure.

SECONDLY - DIY Blogs.  Even if you are not a Blogger I suggest you check these out too.  Many Contractors offer useful tips and hints (a Blog post was where I found my answer to painting the trim - just needed a better brush even though I thought I had a good one). Type in DIY Blogs in your Google Search window.

MORE: diynetwork.com, again try Pinterest.com. DIYnetwork has their own board on there too with loads of useful information for many different types of projects.

Pinterest.com. Just enter DIY in their search window and you’ll find great boards on projects. Pictures to me are very helpful so I favor these boards

Better and Homes and Gardens website is another full of great info and details site too.

HGTV’s website is loaded with inspirational information (hgtvremodeler) and useful tips and guides too.

Remember, and I’ve seen this hundreds of times with being a DIYer. NOT EVERYBODY CAN DO DIY!.

If you are painting a room a new color and not changing the color of your trim then there should not be any paints splatter or “mistakes” on the trim.  These sights and info will show you how to use painters tape or an edger.

Adding molding to a room is a wonderful enhancement and can greatly improve the appearance of the room but if you do not have the correct saw with a sharp blade, matching those corners can be extremely difficult.

When laying tiles of carpet or vinyl they do need to match up (patterns, etc) and you should not be seeing intermittent gaps between the tiles.

These are just to name a few.  NOT EVERYBODY CAN BE A DIYER!

Most of all, Good Luck. Take your time. If you get it wrong the first time, correct the mistake.  Your home will show better and you will be SO PROUD OF YOURSELF.

I MUST ADMIT I FIND IT VERY REWARDING TO SEE THE WONDERFUL DIFFERENCE.

Something very satisfying about the ability to DIY - although a lot of times having help is great too!

Bobbie: Most people try their hand at some aspect of DIY...some are good at it, others not so.  A good list for all skill levels.

Hi Anita, I know what you mean. Have seen too many redone homes for sale that were not done so well.

Hi Patricia, Thank you. You are so kind.  I have to admit I was having fun finding all the helpful information. And, Pinterest, when I get on there I am lost. Lost in all the wonderful pictures and info I find.

Hi Gabe, Thanks. What I have gotten done so far looks really nice.  Even my husband commented that this is going to be a nice difference. Yahoo. Stress relief, love doing DIY and crafting type things, and then the feelings of reward and accomplishment once it is all done.
