THOSE NASTY INSECT BITES AND BEE STINGS! AND WHAT TO DO FOR THEM.

THOSE NASTY INSECT BITES AND BEE STINGS AND WHAT TO DO FOR THEM.

Those nasty insect bites and bee stings  Oh the Itch! Oh the Pain! What's the best remedy for you?

Sometimes it seems that no matter what you try, the itch just will not stop.  I

know how you feel.  Myself and my family are right there with you.  My girls are

especially susceptible to the continuing nasty itch of mosquito bites. In an effort to

find some new remedies, since the old ones were not working, I came across loads

and loads of information for dealing with those nasty insect bites and bee stings and thought I would share some

with you.

THE FUNNIEST ONES I FOUND (to me):

Apply some nail polish on the bite.

Apply some toothpaste to the bite.

Rub a bar of soap over the itchy bite.

Place a piece of scotch tape on the bite.

Tums tablet.  Crush one and add a few drops of water to make a paste and apply to the bite.

Banana peel.  Rub the inside of the peel on the bite.

Cover the bee sting with mustard.

Cover the bee sting with honey.

Now all of this may work, for some people anyway, others maybe not, however, they just struck me as funny.

THE BEST ONES I FOUND (or that seem more realistic to me):

FOR THE ITCH:

Mouthwash.

Vinegar applied directly to the itchy area or take a hot bath with 2 cups of vinegar in the water.

Rubbing Alcohol.

Ammonia.

Witch Hazel.

Benadryl cream or cortisone cream.

Calamine lotion.

Take a bath with baking soda added to the bath.

FOR THE STING:

Make a paste of baking soda and water.

Make a paste of meat tenderizer and water.

Dab a generous amount of toothpaste on the sting spot and leave it on.

Soak the sting spot in a mixture of Epsom salt and water.

Apply Aloe Vera.

Crush fresh parsley and apply.

Drizzle apple cider vinegar over the wound.

Apply a slice of fresh papaya.

Whatever remedy you choose to deal with those nasty insect bites and bee stings I hope you find one that works

for you consistently and I really hope that you do not need to use one of them very often.

AS ALWAYS PLEASE REMEMBER SAFETY FIRST! If at anytime you feel like you are having trouble breathing or that you develop the hives SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY! Other symptoms that require immediate attention could include:

Dizziness.

Blurry vision.

Slurred speech.

Tongue begins to swell.

The stung area begins to swell to an alarmingly large size.

These are great tips. It's very cool today, but these tips will be necessary for me later in the summer.

Bobbie - You did find some interesting remedies. I've used ammonia with some success and generally put a baking soda paste on a bee sting. But for "normal every day" mosquito bites, my bottle of benadryl gel works really well.

It's the stupid black gnats whose bites seem to keep itching no matter what I do, but when I got too many on the back of my ear and it got hot and swollen, benadryl (both the pill and the gel together) calmed it down.

Seems like every time it stops raining long enough for the sun to come out, the gnats come with it.

While I appreciate not having to worry about fire right now, I wish I could send some of our rain to those places where it's needed most.

Hi Marte, Oh I wish you could too. There are certainly too many fires in the Country right now.  I do recall the gnats can be bad too and glad you found something that worked for you. The mosquitoes seem to be our worst enemy this hot summer, for now. Have A Great Day!
