Resources to help you find the right school system for you in Pennsylvania.
Realtors are not allowed to advise or recommend which school district is the best school district in the area and we do
get asked this question OFTEN. As our answer always is, "You need to do research and make your own determination as to which school is the right school system for you when moving to Pennsylvania" this is the only correct answer in my opinion. Everyone has their own guidelines/determinants as to what constitutes "a good school." Therefore, everyone should always do their own research and make their own decision.
That being said I wanted to do some research to see what avenues are available out there in the world of the Internet to help with the decision of finding the right school sytem for you in PA. Details of what I found are listed below. I'm sure this list could go on and on and is constantly changing but hopefully for those moving to the Poconos these will help you to get started.
Let's start with the PA DEPT OF EDUCATION. There are several avenues of information that they offer on their site to help guide you on your way to making a decison on the right school system for you in Pennsylvania such as:
Academic Data and School Report Cards
Graduation Rates
Drop Out Rates
Student Progress
Average Daily Attendance by Schools
Contact Information for Schools
Also on their site:
"Find an Institution" - follow this link to see what schools are available in the County you are moving to.
"Data and Statistics" - this link offers a wealth of relevant information on the schools and the statistics of each.
"Programs" - this link offers some very useful information to assist you in your decision in my opinion too.
View the STATE ACADEMIC STANDARDS of Education and what they feel the students should know and be able to perform at different grade levels.
PENNSYLVANIA will have new Graduation Requirements beginning with the class of 2015. Check them out here.
www.greatschools.org offers data on schools across the Country and offers a Community rating system.
All of these sites offered great articles and some insightful information:
www.pbs.org
www.scholastic.com
www.parents.com
www.parenting.com
www.schoolfamily.com
Nationally, here are a few more good resources:
National Center for Education Statistics
Needless to say there are a ton of powerful and informative sites available to you to guide you in your decision as to which school system is right for you and your family. This blog post could go on and on but I hope it has given you enough avenues to get started. Good Luck!
